Junior Coaching Newsletter Spring / Summer 2023

With the Easter holidays and summer term fast approaching we wanted to update you on our plans for the Easter holidays and our summer programme.

Tennis camps - suitable for players 9-16yrs
Wednesday 5th & 12th April - 2pm-5pm (£20 members / £25 non members)
Wednesday 31st May - 2pm-5pm (£20 members)

Junior Coaching Programme

Monday 17th April - Sunday 28th May - 6 weeks
All players in the current coaching programme will automatically enrol into the new summer term (April/May). Some classes are full so please pay the invoice before the session starts to secure your space. Invoices will be sent out at the beginning of April.

LTA Prime Youth Girls coaching

Coach Tess has received training to deliver a new girls only tennis course.
LTA Prime Youth Girls ONLY six week tennis course commencing Wednesday, 19th April 3.45pm for 45 minutes at a discounted price of £35. This includes 6 tennis sessions, LTA Youth kit bundle containing a tennis racket, a set of balls, t-shirt and wristbands. LTA Prime is a new initiative to encourage more girls to take up and stay in tennis and the above offering is an amazing deal. Please tell your friends - it is suitable for girls new to tennis! Congratulations to Jess Bottrell for winning the Consolation event at the Croydon Ladies Open tournament on Sunday 12th March 2023.

Congratulations to Robbie Brown for coming 2nd place in the Grade 5 10U competition hosted at Preston on 12th March narrowly losing in a very close final.

We have decided to run an U18 Junior Club Closed on Saturday 1st July coinciding with the Adult finals day. There will be lots going on at the club including a barbecue. We hope to see many of our junior players participating. Online entries will open soon - we will email out the booking link shortly.

Team Tennis April - Jun 2023

Preston LTC have 4 junior teams (8U mixed, 10U mixed, 14U boys and 14U girls) playing in the LTA summer junior team tennis league - where they represent the club against other clubs in Sussex. We will update the Heja App and members with the results on the website and display board. We will be running match practices over the coming weeks. Good luck to all the teams competing.

Congratulations to coach Tess for winning the Award for ‘Competition Event of 2022’ at the LTA Sussex Tennis Awards in February 2023. Tess was asked by the LTA SE team to organise an event to highlight the Billie Jean King Cup and help support the Team GB players who were competing in Glasgow. On 12 November during the weekend finals of the Billie Jean King Cup, whilst the GB team were battling it out against Australia in the semi-finals, over 30 girls were having fun on court whilst parents were able to watch the BBC coverage in the club house! Julie Hobbs (formerly Pullin, ex British Number 1 representing GB in 26 ties previously named Fed Cup) helped out during the afternoon and also hosted a Q&A session with the players and parents. The afternoon finished off with a presentation and a delicious tea. The girls tucked into hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows followed by an assortment of cakes, biscuits and sweets! Tennis Sussex has asked Tess to host a ‘Boys Event’ so watch this space for further details. We wish Tess luck in the Regional Final (London & South East) coming up in April.
