Hi Everyone,
Matches going on too long…? Running out of time, forced to return to the club just to finish off a few games…?
Tina Gloggengeiser may have a solution……….
Tina G’s great idea is to let player/teams decide if you should play a Sudden Death Deuce.
Let’s face it, 40 all, Adv in, Deuce, Adv out, Deuce, Adv out, Deuce, Adv in, Deuce and so on, and so on, and so on, one game can take a real long time and risks the match not being finished in the 90 minutes time slot, I’m sure we’ve all been there.
How would it work..?
Firstly, everything must be agreed with the opponents, if one side is not keen on the idea and don’t want to do a Sudden Death Deuce, the match continues in the normal way.
However, if you feel that you may not finish the match in the time that you have, either side can suggest that they play a SDD after 1-2-3 or 4 Deuces, this suggestion must have the agreement of the other player/team.
On the serve of the SDD the receiver will choose which side he/she/they will accept the serve, the server serves in the normal way.
The server must ensure that the recipient is aware that the point is a SDD, what we don’t want are players losing a game because, they had forgotten about the SDD, they must be informed by the server that it is a SDD.
And that’s it, Tina G’s idea may not appeal to everyone but in order to cut out interminable Deuce’s and probably shorten the length of matches I think it’s worth trying..
So, to conclude, as from today, SDD’s will be permitted for the rest of this session which ends on 28th June.
My thanks go to Tina G for the suggestion, I believe it will be welcomed and help a lot in finishing quite a few matches which were at risk of over running.
