Film night confirmed: Joker, Friday 13 in the clubhouse
We’ve got enough takers to run the film night on Friday, but there is room for more.
We’ll be showing Joker, staring Joaquin Pheonix, with Robert De Nero, Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshier, Bill Camp, Shea Whigham and Marc Maron in supporting roles.
Set in 1981, it follows Arthur Fleck, a failed stand-up comedian whose descent into insanity inspires a counter-cultural revolution against the wealthy.
Not perhaps your typical superhero film… Writing for IGN website, Jim Vejvoda gave Joker a perfect score, writing the film "would work just as well as an engrossing character study without any of its DC Comics trappings; that it just so happens to be a brilliant Batman-universe movie is icing on the Batfan cake." He found it a powerful and unsettling allegory of contemporary neglect and violence, and described Phoenix's performance as the Joker as engrossing and "Oscar-worthy", which proved to be prophetic.
The main feature will start at 8.30, but the bar will be open and we’ll be showing episodes from the original Batman TV series from about 7pm…
Let me know if you plan to come so we can prepare the room
